South Island Independence Games 17 - 19 April 2009 Christchurch
The South Island Independence Games have been running since 1990.
2008 is the 18th year the Independence Games have provided Canterbury and New Zealand with a number of top athletes over the years. This event provides the opportunity for young people from all parts of the South Island to take part in a quality sporting event.

The Independence Games is a multisport event that consists of swimming and track and field events.
To be eligible
All athletes must be aged 8-17 as at March 1st 2009 (ie. Your birthday must fall between 01/03/1991 - 01/03/2000) and a CCS Disability Action client.
CCS Disability Action
CCS Disability Action is New Zealand's leading provider of support and services to people with physical disabilities. A leading advocate for the rights of disabled people. Founded to help New Zealand children following two polio epidemics early last century, CCS Disability Action now works in partnership with over 5000 children and adults with physical or multiple disabilities and their families and whanau.
Services are provided nationally through 16 integrated branches around the country. CCS Disability Action employs more than 500 staff and is assisted by over 2000 regular volunteers.

The success of the Independence Games is a tribute to the many hard working volunteers, including the organising committee consisting of parents, CCS Disability Action staff and others who work tirelessly to ensure that there are sufficient funds to support the games and that they will be a memorable time for everyone involved.
